Drawing on her childhood experiences of living in the countryside of Perthshire and Stirlingshire, Betty Tindal’s work, both prose and poetry still draws on that rich landscape and dialect. This fascinating memoir, Glimpsing the Unicorn written in her native Scots, explores several ‘landscapes’ from Tindal’s first encounter with Scottie to the point where she stands on the threshold of her adult career. A colourful true-life account of the hardships and characters that she encountered as a child growing up in rural Scotland in the 1930s and 40s when the War had impinged on her families’ lives.

Betty has been successful in several poetry competitions and is published in various literary magazines winning several prizes including the Janetta Bowie Chalice, (Scot. Assoc. of Writers) for non-fiction. Betty’s latest works are about the local area – the River Nith and the Soloway Estuary, and other locations with the Scottish National Trust where she has worked as an Archaeological Volunteer.

Glimpsing the Unicorn portrays well-loved characters so clearly and in such vivid detail as only ‘a speirin kind o bairn’ could possibly recall.
