Pickle and Lily centres on a loveable black and white cat called Pickle and how he learns to cope with a new addition to his household, ‘an energetic ball of brown and black fur’ known as Lily, a Welsh Terrier puppy.
Pickle gets caught up in all sorts of adventures with a whole cast of characters including his arch enemy, Rufus, a fierce Tabby cat, two friendly Airedale Terriers and, oh yes, a giant rabbit!
The stories are full of humour for children and adults alike and have some good messages for young readers. They have an old fashioned, heart-warming feel to them and will appeal to animal lovers of all ages, making them a popular choice for bedtime reading.
Annie Stewart was born in Bushey, Hertfordshire and attended private school until she was 18 years-old. She went to Pitmans Secretarial College and got into Sotheby’s as a secretary. After working there for many happy years she moved to Suffolk with her then-husband and two children.
When her children left home, Annie started writing seriously and published her first book, which is when she met her now-husband, Philip at a Waterstones book signing. Annie and Philip now live in Cheltenham with their two cats and they are both passionate about children reading and writing. Annie runs creative workshops in schools called ‘Drawing with Words’ and also works in a local special needs school.
Annie says, “The inspiration for this book was my own mischievous black and white cat, Pickle. Gazing at a jar of piccalilli might have helped too!”
