Autumn Events – Out and About

Want to know where Troubador staff will be out and about at trade events over the Autumn? These are the current listings – which we will keep up to date as the season progresses.

September 11th – Gardners Trade Fair (part of the Booksellers’ Association Conference)

In September, the marketing department kicked off the Autumn events season by attending the Gardners Trade Fair. This trade event, run by book wholesaler, Gardners, showcases front and backlist books to the booksellers attending the Booksellers’ Association Annual Conference. The Troubador stand, manned by the marketing department received lots of interest and positive feedback from a wide range of bookshops and booksellers. This was a great way to kick off the Autumn book season and the first in-person trade event since the Covid restrictions started.

3rd November – IPG Autumn Conference

Jonathan White, our Sales and Marketing Manager, will be at the Independent Publishers’ Guild Autumn Conference in London when this event takes place in a face-to-face format. The conference is a great way to network and learn from other indie publishers. With sessions and masterclasses on a range of topics, Jonathan is looking forward to getting back out there and interacting with other publishers, for the benefit of our authors.

8th November – British Book Design and Production Awards

We’re a proud sponsor of the 2021 British Book Design and Production Awards celebrating the best in British book design and production. The award ceremony takes place on the 8th November and will be showcasing the superb quality of the British book design and production industry. Our MD, Jeremy Thompson will be presenting the award for the best self-published book at the event and a team from Troubador, including our Senior Cover Designer Jack Wedgbury and Senior Production Controller Joe Shillito, will be attending on the night. Best of luck to all nominees! https://www.britishbookawards.org/

24th November – Self-publishing Experience Day

September saw our first digital-only version of our popular experience day. Hosted by Customer Services Manager, Hannah Dakin, and featuring talks on book design, layout, marketing, digital and sales from Troubador staff, we are pleased to announce the next virtual day will be on November 24. You can learn more about the day here: https://selfpublishingexperience.co.uk

We are also looking forward to increasing the number of events appearing on the calendar over the next few months and will keep you up-to-date with any we are attending. Looking ahead to 2022 however, here are some dates we have already firmed up:

5-7th April – London Book Fair*

Bringing together publishing professionals from all corners of the globe, this event is about the selling of rights and promotion of books to the book trade. While there is an author focus (with seminars and workshops) it is largely a trade-to-trade event. We will be attending for our 15th year, showcasing our author’s books on our custom-built stand. (*Subject to the organisers going ahead as planned)

9th April – The Self-Publishing Conference

In 2022, our Self-Publishing Conference is back with a bigger and better in-person event, welcoming speakers from The Booksellers' Association, the Society of Authors, the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook, and bestselling fiction author Sophie Hannah.

Early bird booking is now open for the Self-Publishing Conference, which attracts speakers from the publishing and self-publishing industry. The Self-Publishing Conference is a great way to learn new skills, discover new trends and benefit from the knowledge of experienced professionals in your own publishing projects. Find out more and book here: https://selfpublishingconference.org.ukSaturday April 9th, 2022.
