Steven Baker is originally born in Melbourne, Australia. His parents were British migrants who later returned to England when Steven was a child. After returning to England, he was bought up in Ealing. Whilst in his teens, he had a keen desire to travel and visited many places. He actually returned to Australia and lived there for twenty years. Steven now writes full-time and currently lives in Storrington, West Sussex.
In 1892, a Russian family emigrate to America with the hope of beginning a wonderful new life together. But when both parents die prematurely, the children are taken into an orphanage. Despite this terrible ordeal, Anatole and Mariska move forward through life with hope and vivacity.
