A rusty old tin hat, bashed and misshapen, sits in pride of place in Albine Taylor?s home. To many it would be a worn-out, obsolete piece of junk, but to Albine it is a poignant reminder of how she met her husband, Douglas, during the Second World War, and a symbol of their lasting love. From the story of their romantic meeting, Albine describes their life together as they set up home, became self-sufficient, coped with demanding relatives and then upped sticks and moved from Devon to Spain. Always together, always supporting each other and knowing they were loved, theirs was an idyllic marriage, one that only death could threaten.
