Somewhere Here I Slept
Alexis F is a self-exiled recluse, an intellectual and a translator. He is also a man trying to come to terms with the tragic death of his one-time partner and son in a fatal accident. During one of his customary afternoon coffee breaks in the local tea room, he happens to see a woman and young boy who bear an uncanny resemblance to his former partner and their child. This encounter triggers a kaleidoscope of memories, flashbacks, dreams and imaginings, in a helter-skelter attempt to connect with his loss: jobbing itinerant; failed relationships; nervous breakdown; voluntary institutionalisation?
What ensues is a ?cerebral odyssey? as the trials, tribulations and traumas of Alexis F?s life unravel and re-form as he stumbles towards personal rehabilitation. Helping and hindering him along this meandering path are his alter egos ? his Reason and Emotion ? each competing for the ?true? account of the strange trajectory of Alexis F.
Provocative, philosophical and powerfully moving, Somewhere Here I Slept is an unsettling exploration of the irrevocable conflict between what we think and how we feel...
