As soon as Pat sets foot in the picturesque resort of Ruby Bay, with its long history of smuggling and piracy, an incredible chain of events starts to unfold. Who would have believed the deeds to his modest bungalow held the secret to time travel? Pat is swept up in a series of adventures that take him back in time from the year 2000 in the company of his scoundrel of a new-found friend, Colin. He experiences the dangers and squalor of the seventeenth century, living among the inhabitants of the island off Ruby Bay and taking part in their smuggling expeditions. He becomes involved in the intrigue of World War II espionage, and a mission to stop information being passed to the Nazis. In the 1980s he helps to save precious lives, and reunite two couples separated by tragic events in the past. Along the way, Pat finds romance and a new family. He and Colin have the opportunity to become rich beyond his wildest dreams: but will their audacious plan work? And what will be the ripple effect on history of the events they change in the past? The final chapter holds a revelation no one could have guessed at.
