Life and LSE
Roger Alford devoted his working life to economics: beginning his career as an office boy in the City during the Second World War. After serving in the Army, including time in Germany immediately after the war, he returned to England to study at the LSE. His association with London?s prestigious centre of economics education was to continue for the rest of his life: he became an assistant lecturer immediately after graduating, and served on the staff until his retirement. A secondment to the Bank of England, and working through the student revolts of the late 1960s, were to test him and widen his experience. The globalization of economics was to play a part in the later years of his career, and his expert opinion is sought on many levels.
