Hotel Victoire is a glorious comedy of the English and Americans abroad, and abounds in hilarious anecdote, strange events and exquisitely drawn, eccentric characters. It is also a bittersweet tour of memory at the end of which William revisits his old haunts, and discovers that it is impossible to recapture times past.
