Going Off the Rails
Going Off the Rails
What if the rail companies and the mobile phone companies were in league to profit from deliberate train delays? What if a very ordinary man bites the hand that bleeds him and gets away with a million?

John Biddle is a very ordinary, some might even say boring, man. His daily life is regulated by an unvarying routine. During the week he commutes by train every morning from Asham to South Suburbia, where he works for a large insurance company, and back again in the evening. At weekends he visits the supermarket, cleans and tidies his modest house, attempts (without much success) to impose order on his garden, and either watches television or goes to the pub with friends. Every day he records in his diary the delays (or absence thereof) on his journey to and from work. He finds a wry amusement in the surge he observes in the use of mobile phones by passengers whenever their trains are delayed: ?Hello, it?s me: I?m on a train. We?re held up: I?ll be late...?, etc.

Then, one day, events lead him to suspect a sinister connection between the hold-ups on the railways and the consequently increased mobile phone usage by travellers. What follows is the remarkable tale of a mouse that turned. It is a thrilling, and often hilarious, adventure worthy of James Bond in its dangerous escapades and subterfuge. You will never board a train or use a mobile phone again without wondering about the implications of John Biddle?s discovery. It might even send you off the rails!
