Ampshire Boy
Ampshire Boy
Based on the author's own experiences, this classic coming-of-age novel follows the path of the young Robert Leonard as he grows from a carefree boy on a series of landed farm estates in Hampshire in the 1940s to a communications expert in the Royal Navy.

The early chapters of 'Ampshire Boy detail Robert's halcyon days with his two brother and beloved parents, enjoying the simple rugged pleasure of outdoor life. Friendships are forged, loved ones are met and Robert's indomitable character is formed.

A chance encounter with a young naval cadet inspires Robert to see more of the world. At the age of 17 he joins up as a trainee signalman in the communications branch of the Royal Navy. Through gruelling basic training, the initial disappointments of land-based positions, overseas commissions in Singapore and the Middle East, and finally, his first ship experience on board HMS Chichester, Robert's zest for life and fighting spirit shine through.
