All You Need is Love
All You Need is Love
The year is 1970: the start of a new decade and the heyday of the new era in British education. The new University of Wessex is losing its innocence, and so, in their personal lives, are three students. Harry Godson is a young history undergraduate, a Lancashire shopkeeper?s son, wet behind the ears and as green as they come. Emily Bridge and Mary Peterson are fellow Wessex first years from the home counties, lifelong friends, yet with different outlooks and agendas.

Their tutor, Dr Jeremy Grime, is a promising history lecturer, 35 years of age, yet little more worldly-wise than his innocent young tutees. His colleague, Dr Jessica Edge, is determined to educate Grime in the ?ways of the world?, beyond his cosy campus existence. Finally, Professor Geoffrey Noggins, history department head, is a mover and shaker, destined for greater things.

Each player in this powerful campus chronicle is about to embark on a three-year rollercoaster ride that will shape their lives in more ways than they can possibly imagine.

Set in a period of high hopes and novel problems, the story is shaped by a succession of dramatic events: a complex student/teacher liaison; an abortion; a suicide; a string of affairs; and political manoeuvring. As each character strives for success, respect and ultimately love, campus life seems to descend into disharmony.

Written by a former history professor from one of the UK's leading ?new? universities, this debut novel is a lively campus fiction set within authentic history.
