According to Bella
Bella Smart loves her job as a local reporter on the Haybridge Gazette, adores her fiercely-freckled, football-mad daughter Emily even more, isn’t madly keen about having uncontrollable red hair, and has absolutely no time for hotshot Detective Sergeant Jonathan Wright, sent from the Met to solve a series of puzzling burglaries.
When Bella stumbles upon a dead body, her investigative instincts come to the fore: if she can find out who the murderer is without waiting for the police to tell her, she will have the scoop of the century. But Jonathan, a no-nonsense cop with a reputation for ruthless crime-busting, could do without having a feisty, flame-haired reporter questioning his suspects before he does, launching her own surveillance and spouting ridiculous theories about who the murderer might be. He likes his women cool, elegant and undemanding, not chaotic, forthright and in his way.
But Jonathan’s cold, hard facts are few and far between, and he keeps getting distracted by Bella’s imaginative scenarios and instinct for character – not to mention her alluring body, knack of making a fool of herself, and cute but tough 6-year-old daughter. Who will piece together the clues first in this funny, romantic whodunit?
